NEW TO BARE TRAINING?

"I NEED TO GET FIT BEFORE I GO TO BARE!"

It makes us laugh when we hear this. Try not to be self-conscious! Be confident, rise above it, and use BARE as a tool. Remind yourself of WHY you are doing this, nothing else matters.

Training will get you from zero to hero faster than any other method, whether you’ve never worked-out before or been ‘out the game’ for a while. If you have concerns, have a read of our recommendations below.

LIFE IS SHORT.  BE ADVENTUROUS.

“Should I be doing this?”, “Am I doing it right?”, “Will I hurt myself?”
You'll be thrown in at the deep end. And you will do great, we promise.
Be your own superhero. Not only will you progress fastest this way, the adventure and sense of achievement you’ll gain is hugely motivating.

Just know we’re always keeping an eye on you and you’ll never be asked to do anything unsafe.

YOU ARE DOING IT RIGHT.

Never done a movement before and your coach is not correcting you? It means you’re doing it right. Your coaches have been doing this a very long time; they can immediately pick out someone with unsafe technique in a room of 40 people. The good news? If it feels like you're being ignored, you’re doing it correctly. The bad news? There’s not much chance of you cheating on those burpees!

IT'S YOUR WORKOUT. NO ONE ELSE'S.

CrossFit and BLACK’s uniqueness comes from the fact you’ll find a seasoned athlete with 8% body fat, next to someone starting from scratch, both doing the same workout together.

Never compare yourself to anyone else. Doing so is demotivating and counterproductive.  Your workout is all about you. Another person may do 5 rounds of a circuit, you may do 2. Those 2 rounds you achieve will trigger numerous changes in your body allowing you to be able to, in future, do what they can.

And despite what some fear, no one is judging. Or even noticing. They were all beginners, and are most likely too caught up in what they’re doing themselves to notice what anyone else is.

JUST MOVE.

We all have good days and bad days. You may be feeling a little fragile, or wanting to take your training a little slow. Or you may be having one of those days where you’re not your usual superhero self; you’re tired and simply not in the mood. That makes you normal. It happens to all of us. Too frequently sometimes.
You do not need to do much on days like these. However being able to still make it to BARE and just ‘move’ when you feel like this is what differentiates those with truly healthy and active lifestyles, to those that are faddish. The key is to not place high-expectations or training performance pressure on yourself. Doing so makes the thought of upcoming workouts unnecessarily intimidating, kills motivation and you will not enjoy the process.
As BARE Coaches it’s our job to motivate and energise you, however we are totally cool with you doing as little or as much as you’re feeling up to on a given day.

As long as you come in, do your own workout and just ‘move’, it’s a big win.

BUDGET YOUR WORKOUTS.

BARE workouts are totally new and different each day. Elaborating on the points above, look at what we’re asking of you on that day, and place your own budget on it. We may ask you to do 4 rounds of a circuit in 20 mins. You haven’t slept, you’re having a bad day, then come in and commit yourself to 2 rounds. Who knows, you may surprise yourself and do 3 rounds.

Again, depending on your level, or how you’re feeling on a day, we will support you doing as little or a much as you’re up to doing.

TRAINING ON YOUR OWN IS BORING.

At BARE you will always train as part of a group; it's the most sociable, motivating, effective and fun way to workout.
The BARE Coaches are the best out there, however sessions are not one-to-one; their attention will be spread amongst the group. They are always happy to help so please be proactive in approaching them whenever you need a bit of extra support.

FEEL THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD? LIFT IT!

Not sure how much weight to lift? Go too light and you waste the workout, go too heavy and you might die! Right?
Each day we write up the weight we recommend you lift for that specific workout depending on your level. Yes, the weights are heavy at times but you’ll be surprised what you can do.
Of course feel free to go light. Just aim to get as close to our minimum recommendations as possible, it will be the fastest way to get leaner, stronger and fitter.
And be confident with going a bit heavy; the worst that will happen is you’ll need to take a little weight off. Should your technique be unsafely compromised, your Coach will be quick to help you.
If in any doubt, your Coach will help you, ask them.

CAN I DO BLACK OR CROSSFIT IF I HAVE NEVER WORKED-OUT BEFORE?

BLACK and CrossFit are likely to be more technical when compared to other workout types. Many at BARE are new to this training type, however the majority of them have tried other things in the past, it hasn’t worked for them, and they have come to us.
BLACK and CrossFit at BARE are for absolutely all fitness levels, however it should be noted that there are no beginner-specific classes and many of those you will be training alongside have a fitness history.

As long as you follow our recommendations on this page above, this training is a great place to start from scratch, you’ll achieve more than any other workout, and most importantly have a lot of fun doing it.
